My sincere apologies to whoever out there who has been visiting my blog only to find nothing new for the past 3 months... >.< I've really been on an internet hiatus for some time since I started my new job at SPICES. Here's a quick update:
It's been 2 months now since i started my job and it's been a very rewarding journey. SPICES is a centre that provides Early Intervention Services for children with learning disabilities. It is an NGO which focuses on providing these services to the people around the neighborhood especially families of the medium to lower income group. Most children here have receive proper diagnosis from professionals before they enter the program. Our children are mostly with autism, down syndrome, ADHD, ADD and a few more other syndromes that are less heard of. Our Early Intervention Program (EIP) is for children under the age of 6, while the School Age Program (SAP) is for children from 7- 14yrs old. Children in the EIP receive one-to-one attention during their study time while the SAP children studies in a group of up to 9 people.
During these 2 months I've learnt to understand every child as individuals, to know their likes & dislikes, to accept their habits etc. We use the Robert Deller curriculum which focuses on the individual child's progress. So far, I've been given the responsibility to teach 3 children which can be very mind-bending and satisfying at the same time.
Something really good about working here is that I have colleagues who are like family. They are very accepting, non-judgmental, supportive and most importantly, God-loving. Over here, we practice unconditional love to the children and the parents. Other than helping the child to develop the necessary skills, we also support parents and caregivers in the ways to cope with having a child with learning disabilities.
Conclusion, I've slowly learned to let go and let God take control of my life, to trust in Him that He will prepare the way for my future and to provide me sufficiently with the things that I need.
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philipians 4:19 (KJV)
"And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you."Luke 12: 29-31 (KJV)
